Rafaella is the US Director for both Champagne Bollinger and Champagne Ayala. She first became enamored with wine after studying and living in Bologna, Italy. Upon returning to the US, she has had her hand in every facet of the industry, from working harvest and production to service, marketing, and sales. Since starting in the wine business, she has dreamed of working in Champagne. In her current role, Rafaella is responsible for growing the presence and awareness of the two Houses’ champagnes throughout the country.

Rafaella was brought up in Sao Paulo, Brazil and later Pittsburgh, PA. She studied Economics and Sociology at Columbia University, finding the overlap of how cultures relate to business to be endlessly fascinating. Champagne is her perfect region in her mind to best understand that intersection.
The two historic houses, Bollinger and Ayala, share an intimate history dating from WWII. The Bollinger family acquired Ayala as an independent domaine in 2005. Both houses operate independently as the perfect yin and yang in terms of style and production methods. What they share is far more important and makes both houses intriguing.
As Lily Bollinger exclaimed, “I drink champagne when I'm happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory.”
